DRDO DIA-CoE Director Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharathiar University are seeking a Director to lead their Industry Academia Centre of Excellence in Coimbatore. The centre brings university researchers, faculty, start-ups, industry and research institutions together for directed work in advanced defence technology. Its focus areas include biosensors and counter-measure evaluation, environmental toxicity management, respiratory support for extreme environments, and natural polymers and fibres for defence use.

This is the centre's administrative and executive leadership role, not a conventional university teaching appointment. You would shape long-term research and technology roadmaps, align programmes with DRDO's future needs, oversee project delivery, and build routes from laboratory work to usable technology. The notice is aimed at a senior technical leader with substantial experience across defence, technology development, research management or connected domains.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The initial full-time contract runs for three years and may be extended by another two years after a performance review.
• Early termination: Either side may end the appointment before the initial term by giving three months' notice without assigning a reason.
• Joining: The selected person must give a declaration confirming that they will join within thirty days from the appointment letter.
• Retired government staff: Pay is fixed under the applicable Department of Expenditure formula for Old Pension Scheme or New Pension Scheme cases rather than the non-government range.
• Additional support: Bharathiar University may provide accommodation, medical benefits or other incentives under its rules, subject to eligibility and availability.
