Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), through its Traditional Knowledge Digital Library Unit, is building structured digital records from India's classical knowledge sources. These project roles support work on traditional practices involving minerals, metals, materials and agriculture, with the unit based in New Delhi. The unusual part of this drive is its mix of language, science and intellectual-property work: your academic field decides which stream fits you.

The TKDL programme helps prevent traditional Indian knowledge from being claimed incorrectly through intellectual-property rights. Your work will therefore connect source reading, subject interpretation and careful digital documentation. These are project appointments rather than regular CSIR posts, so you should view them as specialised research assignments with defined tenure.

Posts and Disciplines

• Senior Project Associate, Sanskrit (TKM01): a language-led research role for interpreting classical Sanskrit material and connecting it with scientific subject matter.
• Project Associate-I, Metallurgy (TKM02): a technical stream focused on mineral, metal and materials practices found in classical texts and related literature.
• Project Associate-I, Agriculture (TKA01): a life-science stream covering traditional agriculture, agronomy, horticulture, animal science and related practices.
• Project Associate-I, Patents (TKA02): an intellectual-property stream that supports patent analytics, patent informatics and the organisation of scientific information.

Post-wise Duties

Senior Project Associate, Sanskrit

You will read and interpret Sanskrit source material, identify relevant traditional practices and help convert the meaning into a form that subject specialists and database teams can use.

Project Associate-I, Metallurgy

You will identify practices connected with metals, minerals and materials, compare descriptions across classical texts and other literature, and explain them in their technical context.

Project Associate-I, Agriculture

You will trace traditional agricultural practices in old texts and supporting literature, then interpret them using your background in agriculture or life sciences.

Project Associate-I, Patents

You will support patent and scientific-information analysis, organise findings and help the unit connect documented knowledge with intellectual-property searches.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the engagement is temporary, project-linked and co-terminus with the project, with an outer limit of 31 March 2027.
• Overall project service: combined service across CSIR project appointments cannot exceed six years.
• Performance: the unit will review your work periodically and may end the engagement if performance is not satisfactory.
• Mobility: project personnel may need to travel when the work demands it, although the main project location is New Delhi.
• Confidentiality: selected personnel must protect project findings and related intellectual-property information.
• Attendance costs: CSIR will not pay TA or DA for attending the test or interview.
• Current employment: if you already work elsewhere, carry a No-Objection Certificate from your employer for the interview.
