CMFRI Young Professional Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Kochi, is filling Young Professional-II and Young Professional-I posts under the project National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA). The work sits at the meeting point of climate change and marine fisheries — sampling plankton, checking water and sediment quality, and crunching fishery and environmental data. These are purely temporary contract posts tied to the project, and selection runs through email screening followed by a walk-in interview at CMFRI Kochi.

If you have a science degree and do not mind going out to sea on research cruises, this is a solid way to get research-project experience at one of India's oldest marine fisheries institutes.

Posts and Disciplines

• Young Professional-II (Climate and Fisheries Research): the senior post, meant for postgraduates in fisheries science, marine biology, marine science or environmental science with research-project exposure.
• Young Professional-I (Fisheries and Marine Biology): for science graduates from fisheries, marine science, marine biology, zoology or botany; a postgraduate degree and fish taxonomy experience give you an edge.
• Young Professional-I (Data and Statistics): for graduates in statistics, physics, computer science or zoology who know GIS, remote sensing or programming.
• Young Professional-I (Office and Field Support): for graduates with experience in office administration and field work; MS Office and accounts knowledge helps.

Post-wise Duties

Young Professional-II

You will analyse fishery and environmental data, run laboratory and field experiments, and handle marine plankton sampling and analysis. Expect to join sea-going expeditions and collect oceanographic data on board a vessel.

Young Professional-I (Fisheries and Marine Biology)

You will collect and analyse environmental data, help with laboratory and field experiments, and work on fish sampling, plankton and benthos identification, and water and sediment quality checks.

Young Professional-I (Data and Statistics)

You will handle environmental data collection and analysis, support lab and field experiments, and use tools like QGIS, ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine for mapping and data work.

Young Professional-I (Office and Field Support)

You will keep the project office files in order, do MS Office and data entry work, and join the team for field work when needed.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Each post runs for one year from joining or until the project ends, whichever comes first. You cannot claim a regular appointment at CMFRI later.
• Field travel: You must be willing to travel to different sampling locations and take part in sea-going expeditions.
• Number of posts may change: The final count can vary with project needs on the interview day.
• Relatives at ICAR-CMFRI: If any near or distant relative works at the institute, you must declare it in Annexure-II in advance; a declaration made only on the interview day is not accepted.
• Present employer: Working candidates should bring a No Objection Certificate.
• CGPA or OGPA marks: Bring the approved conversion table or formula, or your candidature will not be considered.
• No TA/DA: CMFRI pays no travel allowance for attending the interview.
• Final say: The Director, ICAR-CMFRI decides all matters, and the institute can end the engagement without giving reasons.

Email the filled application form (Annexure-I) and declaration (Annexure-II), your biodata, and scanned copies of all original certificates from matriculation onwards plus experience proofs to nicracmfri22@gmail.com. Without these scans you will not be allowed into the interview.

Only shortlisted candidates get an email invite. If you receive one, report at ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi at 10:00 AM on the interview day with one valid photo ID.
