Cabinet Secretariat Staff Car Driver Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India wants Staff Car Drivers (Ordinary Grade) for its office at Seva Teerth, New Delhi. This is not an open recruitment — the posts are filled on a deputation or absorption basis from people who already work for a Central Government ministry or department. If you are a Despatch Rider or a regular entry-grade Group C employee and you can drive a car well, this is a way to move up to a driving post in one of the most senior offices in the government.
The post is classed as a General Central Service, Group C, Ministerial post. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also been asked to share the circular with the Central Police Organisations, so willing Staff Car Drivers, Despatch Riders and MTS staff there can be nominated too.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Who can be considered: only serving Central Government officials — Despatch Riders (Group C) on a regular basis, or regular Group C employees in the entry grade named in the circular. Private candidates and freshers cannot apply.
- Driving skills matter: you need a valid licence for motor cars, at least three years of car-driving experience, and enough knowledge of motor mechanism to fix minor defects in the vehicle yourself.
- Deputation tenure: the deputation period, counted together with any ex-cadre deputation you held just before this one, should ordinarily not exceed three years.
- Pay on deputation: your pay will be fixed under DoPT OM No. 6/08/2009-Estt.(Pay.II) dated 17 June 2010, as amended.
- Place of posting: New Delhi.
- Relieving: only officials who can be relieved immediately if selected should apply; your employer has to certify this.

Your application must come through proper channel — your own office forwards it. Send it to The Director (Admn.), Cabinet Secretariat, Seva Teerth, New Delhi-110004. The bio-data proforma and the employer's certificate are in the annexure to the circular on the Cabinet Secretariat website (under More > Vacancies).
Advance copies are not accepted. Applications that arrive late or without the required certificates are likely to be rejected, so ask your administration section to start the forwarding early.

- Carry out duties assigned by the Administration Division
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean and in good running condition
- Spot and fix minor defects in the vehicle
- Report bigger faults so the vehicle can be sent for repair

10th class pass from a recognised Board, plus a valid driving licence for motor cars; must be a Despatch Rider (Group C) on regular basis or a regular Group C employee in Level 1 (Rs. 18,000-56,900) in a Central Government Ministry/Department
