BLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: Overview
Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) is recruiting sportspersons for its railway unit in Varanasi through an open sports quota drive. The notice brings together men's basketball, volleyball, wrestling and handball, with openings tied to particular playing positions or wrestling events. Your appointment comes with a continuing commitment to railway sport, and your sporting performance remains important after you join.
Posts and Disciplines
- Basketball: The team needs all-rounders, forwards, a point guard and a pivot. Match your playing position to the entry you choose in the application.
- Volleyball: The advertised positions cover universal players, libero, counter attackers, setter and centre blocker. The notice separates these team roles rather than treating every volleyball player as interchangeable.
- Wrestling: The openings cover freestyle and Greco-Roman events. Your event must match the advertised entry, so check both the wrestling style and weight category.
- Handball: BLW lists back and wing positions alongside an all-rounder, pivot and goalkeeper. The available positions span attacking play, team support and goalkeeping.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Probation: You will serve a probation period of two years. BLW will assess your sporting performance during this period, and unsatisfactory performance can lead to termination.
- Service commitment: You must sign a five-year service bond at appointment and continue performing in your sport for at least five years. Consider this commitment before choosing the railway sports route.
- Reservation: The notice does not reserve posts for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, persons with disabilities or ex-servicemen. Community-related concessions do not create a reserved sporting position.
- Choice of entry: If you meet higher sporting norms but apply against a lower entry, BLW will consider you only for the entry you selected. A stronger achievement does not automatically move your application to another entry.
- Travel and stay: BLW will not provide travel allowance, daily allowance or accommodation for the trials and assessment. Bring your own playing kit and arrange your stay, which may last four to five days.
- Schedule changes: Be ready for a call at short notice. BLW can change the venue, postpone or cancel the trials, so keep your travel arrangements flexible.
- Provisional candidature: Registration alone does not confirm acceptance. Incorrect information or false records can lead to rejection during recruitment or termination after appointment.
- Governing instructions: Railway Board instructions take priority if they conflict with the notice. The English version controls interpretation, and legal disputes fall under the stated CAT/Allahabad jurisdiction.

You must complete your online form, payment and uploads by 12 October 2026.
You need Class 10/ITI/NAC for Level 1, Class 12 for Level 2, or graduation for Level 5, plus the recognised sports achievements for your entry. You must be 18 to 25 years old on 1 January 2027.
Use the BLW sports recruitment registration form, pay the prescribed fee, upload your records and complete the online submission. Apply separately for each game or discipline and retain your form printout and payment receipt.
You face document verification, sports trials and assessment of achievements and education, followed by the required medical examination. The trial carries 40 marks and the remaining assessment carries 60 marks.
The fee is Rs. 500 for other candidates or Rs. 250 for the listed concession categories. If you attend the trial, the refundable amount is Rs. 400 or Rs. 250 respectively.
