Bhakra Beas Management Board Chairman Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), under the Ministry of Power, manages major Bhakra Nangal and Beas projects involving Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. The post of Chairman, BBMB carries responsibility for complex inter-state power and irrigation matters. This is a senior board-level role meant for experienced engineering officers with mature project leadership experience.

BBMB looks after the Bhakra Nangal and Beas Projects, which are joint projects connected with the participating states. The Chairman has to work on inter-state issues where power, irrigation, dam operations and project administration overlap. The notice clearly says the post needs tact, mature judgement and senior technical experience, so this is not an entry-level recruitment.

The tenure is also defined in the BBMB Rules, 1974. The Chairman normally holds office for a term of 3 years from the date of taking charge. Reappointment for another term may be possible, but total tenure including extension cannot exceed 6 years, and the Chairman cannot continue beyond 60 years of age.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Engineering Degree: You need to be an Engineering Graduate in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university or institution.

Experience Route 1

• Regular Experience: You need minimum 25 years of regular experience.
• Project Head Experience: This should include at least 5 years as head of project in construction, operation or maintenance of major power, transmission, dam, barrage or canal systems.
• Hydro Project: Experience may include large hydro electric projects of 200 MW capacity or more.
• Transmission: Experience may include minimum 500 circuit kilometres transmission line at 132 kV or above.
• Irrigation Works: Experience may include large dams, barrages or canal network with at least 1000 cusecs water carrying capacity.

Experience Route 2

• Chief Engineer Level: You can also be eligible if you have worked as a Chief Engineer at Senior Administrative Grade level.
• Relevant Work: Your minimum 25 years of experience should be in construction, operation, maintenance, planning or design of irrigation or power projects.

Service Record Conditions

• ACR dossiers: Up-to-date Annual Confidential Reports for the last 5 years should be available.
• Vigilance: No vigilance or disciplinary case should be pending or contemplated against the candidate.
• Penalty details: The forwarding authority must include penalty details for the last 10 years, if any.
• Disciplinary status: Details of any disciplinary action initiated or being contemplated must be shared clearly by the forwarding authority.

Age Limit

• You should not be more than 58 years old as on the closing date for receipt of application.
• The Chairman cannot hold office beyond the age of 60 years.

Salary

• Pay scale: Level-16 in the Pay Matrix, Rs. 2,05,400 to Rs. 2,24,400.
• The pay is as per the Central Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016.
• Travel allowance and other allowances are admissible as per the applicable highest-grade rules mentioned in the notice.
• The salary and allowances of the Chairman are paid from BBMB funds.

Selection Process

The notification does not mention a written exam. Selection is based on eligibility, service record and suitability for the board-level Chairman post.
