AKU Guest Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Patna, a state university set up under a Bihar Act of 2008, is engaging Guest Faculty at the Assistant Professor level for three of its specialised schools. This is Appointment Advertisement No. 04/2026, and it follows an earlier guest faculty call from June 2026. Guest faculty are paid per class taken, not a fixed monthly salary, so the role suits researchers and postdocs who want university teaching experience in Patna alongside their own work.

Posts and Disciplines

• School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: teaching in nanoscience and nanotechnology; the post is reserved for an SC candidate. The school prefers someone who has handled high-end characterisation equipment such as electron microscopes, VSM and FTIR, has published in the field, or holds a patent.
• Patliputra School of Economics: teaching economics; this post is also reserved for an SC candidate.
• School of Astronomy: the largest share of posts, open to Unreserved, EBC and SC candidates. Apart from Space Physics, Astrophysics or Astronomy graduates, Physics, Material Science and Nanoscience postgraduates can also apply if they have a related PhD or research papers as lead author with lab experience.

Post-wise Duties

Guest Faculty, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

You will teach nanoscience courses, run materials characterisation work in the school's labs and help students with research methods and instruments.

Guest Faculty, Economics

You will take economics lectures for the school's programmes, set internal assessments and guide students on course work.

Guest Faculty, Astronomy

You will teach astronomy and astrophysics papers and help students with problems and projects in the subject. The university expects every guest faculty member to build a scientific temper in students and use modern teaching tools in class.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Pay per class: The honorarium is consolidated and paid for each class you take, with a monthly ceiling.
• NET exemption through PhD: A PhD awarded under the UGC 2009 or 2016 regulations exempts you from NET. If you registered before 11 July 2009, the exemption needs a regular-mode PhD, two external examiners, an open viva, two papers from the PhD (one in a refereed journal) and two conference presentations, certified by the Registrar or Dean.
• Foreign PhD: A PhD from a university ranked in the top 500 of QS, THE or ARWU also qualifies.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call. The university may add a seminar, presentation or written test, and scores follow the Bihar Governor Secretariat points table dated 29 August 2020.
• Reserved categories: SC/ST candidates need recent caste certificates; OBC/EBC/EWS candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate, or they will be treated as General.
• Panel and changes: The university may draw a panel for future vacancies, change the number of posts, extend the last date or cancel the drive.
• Other points: No TA/DA is paid for the interview, fees are not refundable, canvassing leads to rejection, and legal disputes fall under the Patna High Court.

Attach the Demand Draft in favour of "Aryabhatta Knowledge University", payable at Patna, self-attested copies of certificates from Class 10 onwards, and one self-addressed stamped envelope (25 cm x 12.5 cm).

Send the envelope by Speed Post only to The Registrar, Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Gyan Parisar, Mithapur Bus Stand, Patna 800001. The university does not accept responsibility for postal delays, so post it early.
