MNNIT Research Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad is hiring one research fellow for its Mechanical Engineering Department in Prayagraj. The post sits in a Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CSTUP) project that is building an IoT-enabled system to pull drinking water out of the air and capture carbon, using hybrid sorbents that are regenerated with ultrasound. Only residents of Uttar Pradesh can apply, because CSTUP funds research staff from the state alone.

The single position is filled at one of three levels — Junior Research Assistant (JRA), Senior Research Assistant (SRA) or Research Associate (RA) — depending on your degree and research experience. It is a contract post tied to a three-year project, led by Dr. Sumit Tiwari (Mechanical Engineering) with Dr. Nirmal Ch. Roy (Electronics and Communication Engineering) as co-investigator.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Research Assistant (JRA): the entry level, meant for first-class B.E./B.Tech. graduates or fresh postgraduates such as M.Sc. holders.
• Senior Research Assistant (SRA): for first-class M.E./M.Tech. holders, or M.Sc.-level candidates who already have two years of research backed by journal publications.
• Research Associate (RA): the senior level, for Ph.D. holders or M.Tech./M.E. holders with three years of research, design and development work.
• Disciplines: the notice names Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical and Electronics, and Energy Engineering, and also accepts other relevant specialisations.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: You must be an Indian citizen and a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
• Tenure: The first contract runs for one year and can be extended until the project ends, if your work is good and funds are available.
• No permanent claim: The post is temporary and ends with the project; it gives no right to absorption in the institute.
• Ph.D. option: You may be allowed to register for a Ph.D. at MNNIT if you meet the institute's admission rules.
• Accommodation: Hostel or campus housing may be given, subject to availability and institute norms.
• Relaxation by the committee: The selection committee can marginally relax the qualification and age criteria for a candidate with special research experience.
• Working candidates: If you are employed anywhere, bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer to the interview.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
