PB Casual News Reader Translator Recruitment 2026: Overview
Prasar Bharati (PB) is building a panel of Casual News Readers-cum-Translators for the Regional News Unit (RNU) at Akashvani, Dehradun. The notice covers both Hindi and Kumauni assignments at the same station. If you join the panel, you may be booked for work when the unit needs you; this is a casual broadcasting arrangement.
Posts and Disciplines
- Hindi News Reader-cum-Translator: the Hindi-language assignment stream at Akashvani Dehradun, combining news translation, editing and reading for radio.
- Kumauni News Reader-cum-Translator: the Kumauni-language assignment stream within the same regional unit, with the same broad news preparation and presentation duties.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Local residence: The notice is for applicants residing in Dehradun. This is a station-based panel, so you should consider the local work arrangement before applying.
- Bookings depend on demand: The unit offers assignments from time to time according to its requirements. Being on the panel does not mean that you receive continuous work or a fixed monthly schedule.
- Normal booking limit: Assignments will normally stay within 6 days in a month and 72 assignments in a year. The notice describes these as limits on casual bookings.
- No regularisation claim: Working on this casual basis gives you no right to have your service made regular within the organisation.
- Travel expenses: No travel or daily allowance is paid for attending the assessments. You will need to make your own arrangements for travel to Dehradun.
- Communication: The office will display assessment information on its notice board and contact shortlisted applicants by email or telephone. Use contact details through which the unit can reach you.
Application Submission Notes
Send your prescribed application by post or deliver it by hand to The Head of Office, Akashvani, Dehradun, P.O. Ajabpur Kalan – 248001. On the envelope, identify the Casual News Reader-cum-Translator language category and RNU Akashvani Dehradun, following the wording in the notice.
Applying for both language categories needs separate applications and a separate processing payment for each. The office does not take responsibility for applications that arrive late or fail to arrive, so allow enough time for delivery.

You will take a written test, voice test and interview, with 100 marks each. You need at least 50 marks in the written test to be called for the voice test.
Written Test
- Hindi post: translation between English and Hindi.
- Kumauni post: translation between Hindi and Kumauni.
- Common topics: short notes on current affairs and general knowledge.
Voice Test and Interview
- Voice assessment: quality, modulation, diction, pronunciation and accent.
- Interview: suitability for work in the Regional News Unit.
Venue: all assessments take place in Dehradun. The notice does not give the question count, duration, subject-wise marks or negative-marking rules.
