Indian Statistical Institute Project Linked Person LRU Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata has released Advertisement No. No.PU/507/ADV/554 dated 15 June 2026 for one temporary Project Linked Person post. The role is for the project Developing Juray Lexicon with Data Collected through Field Surveys (2026-2029) in the Linguistic Research Unit. This is a project-based contract role, so it does not give any claim for permanent employment at ISI.

The work is strongly linked to linguistic field survey, language documentation and digital lexicography. This opening is a good fit if your academic background is in linguistics and you are comfortable working with field data from remote, rural or tribal areas. ISI has also asked for sensitivity towards tribal community customs, informed consent and community engagement, so the project needs both research skill and careful field conduct.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• Education: You need a First Class M.A. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or Field Linguistics.
• Field survey knowledge: You should have good knowledge of linguistic field survey and field-based data collection.
• Documentation experience: Experience in language documentation and digital lexicography is required.
• Research output: You must have at least 1 research paper presented at an international conference or published in an indexed journal.
• Field readiness: You should be able to work in remote, rural and tribal areas.

Desirable Skills

• Computer tools: Working knowledge of MS Office is desirable.
• Lexicon tools: Experience with dictionary-making software and NLP Toolkit will help.
• Data analysis: Basic knowledge of statistical analysis using SPSS is desirable.
• Lexical classification: Knowledge of theme-based lexical classification is preferred.
• Language knowledge: Working knowledge of the Odia language is desirable.

Project Conditions

• Tenure: The appointment is initially up to 31 March 2027 from the date of joining.
• Extension: The tenure may be extended or ended earlier depending on performance and fund availability.
• No residential facility: ISI has stated that residential facilities are not available for contractual staff.
• Permanent job claim: This post does not create any right to claim permanent employment or continuation in another project.

Age Limit

• Maximum age should not exceed 35 years as on 25 June 2026.
• Age relaxation: Usual relaxation as per Government of India rules will apply.
• Extra relaxation: ISI may give relaxation to outstanding candidates or candidates with relevant experience.

Salary

• Monthly consolidated salary: Rs. 30,000.
• No other allowances are mentioned in the notification.
• The pay is linked to a temporary project appointment, not a regular pay-level post.

Selection Process

The selection process is based on shortlisting and interview. ISI may conduct a written or programming test if it needs to shortlist candidates before interview.

2. Written or programming test if required: A test may be used only for shortlisting; the notification does not give a fixed paper pattern.
