The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has invited online applications for the post of Librarian at the West Bengal Secretariat Library under the Home & Hill Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal. Salary

• Pay Scale: Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,44,300 per month (Pay Level 16, WBS (ROPA) Rules 2019)
• Grade Pay: Rs. 5,400
• Allowances: HRA 12% (capped at Rs. 12,000/month), Dearness Allowance (DA), and other applicable allowances

Who Can Apply – Eligibility

Educational Qualification:

• Second Class Honours degree or Master's degree from a recognized university
• Degree or Diploma in Librarianship from a recognized university or institution

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in library work at a Public or Institutional Library of repute
• Desirable: Experience in office administration

Language: You must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali. This will be tested at the interview stage.

Age Limit (as on 01.01.2026)

• Maximum Age: 36 years
• SC/ST candidates (West Bengal): 5 years relaxation
• OBC candidates (West Bengal): 3 years relaxation
• PwBD candidates: Age limit is up to 45 years

• SC/ST (West Bengal) and PwBD: Exempt (no fee)

Selection Process

Selection will happen in 3 stages:

1. Screening Test – OMR-based MCQ written test (used only for shortlisting, marks not counted in final merit)
2. Interview – Qualifying marks: 40% for Unreserved (UR) category. Bengali language proficiency will be tested here.
