UPMRC Project Director Recruitment 2026: Overview

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, wants a senior civil engineer to lead one of its metro projects as Project Director. The post is based at Kanpur, where work on the balance corridor of the Kanpur Metro is in full swing. UPMRC already runs metro services in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra, and the 11.2 km East-West corridor under Phase 1B of Lucknow Metro has recently been approved, so the corporation is building up its project leadership.

This is not an open recruitment for freshers. UPMRC is looking for serving officers of government organisations and government metro companies who can join on deputation or absorption. If you already hold a SAG-level or equivalent post and have spent years planning and building metro or railway infrastructure, this role puts you in charge of the whole civil construction side of a live metro project.

You would own project management end to end: designs and tendering, track works, contract administration, quality and safety, land acquisition, rehabilitation of affected people and businesses, utility and traffic diversions, and getting the statutory approvals and clearances needed through construction and commissioning.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Two routes to join: On absorption you become a UPMRC employee on its own pay scale. On deputation you keep your parent pay plus a deputation allowance, for a normal tenure of 3 years that may be extended.
• Private-sector service counts: If you now work in a CDA/IDA pay scale but earlier held an executive post in a reputed private company, that period is counted towards the required Group A / executive-level service. You must attach documents proving that executive-level experience.
• Surety bond (absorption only): Absorbed candidates sign a surety bond of Rs. 3,00,000 to serve UPMRC for at least three years, excluding LWP or EOL periods, and must give three months' notice before resigning. Deputationists do not sign this bond.
• Probation: Absorbed candidates serve two years of probation, including any training period.
• Clean record: You must be free from D&AR and vigilance cases, and absorption depends on a satisfactory check of your character and antecedents.
• Medical fitness: You must be medically fit as per the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM).
• Posting: The vacancy is at Kanpur, but you can be posted to any UPMRC project site or office during your tenure. The number of vacancies is provisional.
• Interview travel: UPMRC pays no travelling allowance for attending the interview at Lucknow.
