SVNIT Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat is filling Professor posts across its engineering, science and humanities departments. SVNIT is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, set up by an Act of Parliament, and it runs undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. This is a regular faculty appointment at the top academic rank — most of the advertised seats are reserved, with the largest share earmarked for Scheduled Tribe candidates. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Reservation: Seats follow the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Act, 2019, with the whole Institute counted as one unit. The number of posts in any category can rise or fall without a fresh notice.
• Foreign degrees: A Ph.D. or earlier degree from abroad counts only if it comes from that country's national university or an institution ranked within the top 500 of the QS or THE world rankings.
• Inbreeding rule: If your Ph.D. is from SVNIT, you need a three-year gap between your Ph.D. notification and the application closing date, unless you are already on the SVNIT faculty.
• Experience that counts: Part-time, visiting, guest and teaching-assistant service is ignored, and only regular posts held for more than six months are added up. Industry experience counts only from PSUs, autonomous bodies or companies with a turnover above Rs. 500 crore.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a call. Each department can set its own, higher shortlisting bar.
• Probation: One year, which the appointing authority can extend.
• Pension and transfer: New appointees join the National Pension System, and you can be moved to another section, department or place in the Institute's interest.
• Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for the presentation or interview, though candidates working abroad may be allowed to attend online.
• Government employees: Apply through proper channel and bring a No Objection Certificate in the Annexure-V format to the interview.
• Jurisdiction: Any legal dispute about this advertisement can be filed only in the High Court of Gujarat.
