Nagaland Police Constable (GD) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Office of the Director General of Police, Nagaland is hiring Constables (General Duty) for the Nagaland Police through an open rally held in every district headquarters at the same time. This drive is unusual: most of the posts are being filled to comply with the Gauhati High Court (Kohima Bench) judgments of September 2024, which set aside earlier constable appointments, and the rest are backlog posts left unfilled in Recruitment-2025. Only members of the indigenous Naga tribes of Nagaland can apply.

The whole process is run by a Departmental Recruitment Board (DRB) with District Level Screening Committees (DLSC) in each district. Posts are shared out district by district using the tribal ratio based on the 2011 Census, the same way it was done in the 2025 recruitment. It is a regular, permanent police job, and the low school-level qualification means many young people from villages across the state can try for it.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Indigenous tribes only: Applicants from non-indigenous tribes are not eligible. You need a valid Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate along with your Scheduled Tribe or Backward Tribe certificate.
• Constables affected by the court order: The serving constables whose appointments were set aside, and the petitioners in the writ cases, can apply again and will get the age relaxation ordered by the High Court.
• One district only: You can apply against only one district. For this drive, Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland are treated as one district.
• Native district rule: Apply either in your native district or in Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland if you are native to or living in one of those three and hold an Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate from that district.
• Recognised villages: Chang, Sumi and Phom tribe members from the recognised villages of Mokokchung, and Sumi members from the recognised villages of Wokha and Shamator, must apply only from those districts. Others from these tribes living there apply from their native district.
• Tests in your district only: You must take every test and the interview in the district you applied for. Turning up in another district cancels your candidature.
• Backlog posts: These are open only to the tribes and districts whose posts could not be filled in Recruitment-2025. The district-wise lists are in Annexure I, II and III on the Nagaland Police website.
• Physical standards: The board can re-run the physical standards test at any stage, and failing it later still disqualifies you.
• Fake documents: A forged certificate gets you barred from this and all future police recruitments.
• Government employees: Bring an original No Objection Certificate signed by your Head of Department. This also applies to the constables whose appointments were set aside.

Forms are filled only online on the Nagaland Police Online Registration Portal (nagalandpolicerecruitment.in). No paper forms are given out at Police Headquarters or at any Commissioner or Superintendent of Police office, and forms sent to other police offices will not be considered.
