IIT Madras Project Research Scientist II Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is recruiting a Project Research Scientist II (Non-Medical) for a contract research role in its Department of Chemical Engineering in Chennai. The project, coordinated by Professor Ethayaraja Mani, studies how a bioactive scaffold could support dental pulp regeneration in diabetic conditions. Its focus is functional tissue regeneration, addressing problems that conventional repair materials do not fully resolve.

Diabetes can make dental pulp harder to heal by affecting small blood vessels and increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. The project responds to that problem by combining approaches to control inflammation and support new blood vessel formation. If you join, your work will sit within a study that connects polymer materials with the biological needs of damaged dental tissue.

The scaffold builds on the research group's earlier work with Resolvin E1, a molecule delivered through a carboxymethyl chitosan scaffold to inflamed human dental pulp stem cells. This project brings that approach together with vascular endothelial growth factor. The aim is to address unresolved inflammation and impaired blood vessel formation together, rather than focus only on calcified repair.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: The appointment runs for one year at first. An extension depends on your performance; it is not automatic.
• Contract status: Completing the engagement does not give you a right to another extension or a permanent position at IIT Madras. Keep this condition in mind when considering the role as your next research appointment.
