IIEST JRF Chemistry Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur is hiring a Junior Research Fellow for its Department of Chemistry in Howrah, West Bengal. The fellow will work on an ANRF-funded PAIR Network project, an eight-institution partnership on advancing materials research, from fundamental design to new uses in structural, functional and biomaterials.

The project is led at IIEST by Dr. Papu Biswas, Associate Professor of Chemistry. Selection happens through a walk-in interview, but you must email your documents first. If you hold an M.Sc in Chemistry with a valid GATE or NET score and want to start research work in materials chemistry, this post is a good entry point.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-linked tenure: The project runs for five years from its start, or until it ends, whichever is earlier. The fellowship is tied to the project, so it is not a permanent job.
• GATE/NET is compulsory: A valid GATE or NET qualification is required along with your M.Sc marks; without it you are not eligible.
• Lower marks for reserved categories: SC, ST and PwD candidates get a lower M.Sc marks cut-off than general candidates.
• Document check at joining: Your physical documents are verified when you join, and the selection is cancelled if any discrepancy turns up.
• Shortlisting: IIEST may shortlist candidates before the interview if it gets many applications.

Write an application letter on plain paper and email it with your bio-data, mark sheets and certificates, all self-attested, to papu.chem@faculty.iiests.ac.in. The email must reach before 5:00 pm on the closing day. Mention a working email address and phone number so the department can reach you.
