BHU Postdoctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi is hiring one Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry, Institute of Science. The fellow will work on an ICMR-funded research project (P-14/0830) titled "Synthesis and Screening of Novel Class of Metabolites-based Triazole Analogues for the Treatment of Hepatic Fibrosis" (ICMR file EMDR/1G/13/2026-01-0284).

This is a project-based fellowship under the ICMR scheme, valid for 36 months and purely temporary — it is not a permanent university post. The project is led by Dr. Arunava Manna, and the work centres on designing and making new triazole compounds and testing them as possible treatments for liver fibrosis.

The role suits an early-career synthetic organic chemist who wants to move into drug-discovery research — hands-on work with heterocycles and multi-step synthesis is what the project lead is looking for.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The fellowship runs for 36 months and the post is purely temporary.
• Increment: The fellowship rises by 5% on the initial amount after every two years of service.
• Institute ranking: Your PhD must come from an Indian university or institute with an NIRF rank up to 20, or from a foreign university.
• Publications: You need a proven record of at least two Q1 or Q2 journal papers in the relevant area.
• Reservation note: When all else is equal, SC/ST candidates are preferred as per Government of India rules.
• Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid if you are called for a physical interview.
